Filling my Heart with Compassion

a hundred years from now…
filling my heart with compassion,
the lord makes me his servant.

succumbing to fear of being exposed
hinders the realization of the hope I was given

breaking through into the light of day
a worthy aspiration in a land gripped in darkness

developing an appropriate reaction to madness and atrocity 
and the pressure of witnessing so much pain
perceived by the author as a defense of what’s right
