Always searching for solutions
he failed to grasp the obvious
Leaving the safety of her love
was his single biggest mistake
By the time he awakened
to the truth of her devotion
He was mired in sticky drama
and a pattern of bad choices
So he chose to live a better life
and make himself of service
Assuming that nothing could
supplant his long-ago romance
He learned about perseverance
accumulating wisdom on his way

battled demons, and slayed the beast
Eventually, he tired of always denying
passion and his long unforgotten sorrow
He slipped into bedraggled hollowness
and sought to pullback from his duty
Unable to go on, crying to his god,
he submitted his spirit and stubborn will
in exchange for absolution and relief
from banishment and unending anguish
His reward appeared on the horizon
offering a gift of forgiveness and love
She feared him long dead and legend,
opened her arms and joined their hearts
They were joyfully wed in the summer,
unburdened of turmoil and strife
They acknowledge they have been blessed
when they give account of this tale of love
