A Living and Holy Sacrifice

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice…

Romans 12:1 NASB2020

What I must decide is whether or not I will agree with my Lord and Master that my body will indeed be His temple. Once I agree, all the rules, regulations, and requirements of the law concerning the body are summed up for me in this revealed truth – my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, December 5

Are we grateful that God has forgiven us? If so, do we offer ourselves as a sacrifice? Are we willing to lay down our minds, wills, and bodies as sacrifices to the one that has gone before us? How will His Spirit dwell comfortably within if the temple is not prepared?

Have we asked Him to cleanse us of all unrighteousness? Have we devoted time to worship Him? Have we read His word and let it be written on our hearts? Perfect adherence is not required. Obedience and devotion to His commandments, repentance from our old behaviors, and the love and caring of His sheep are. Are our hearts ready to be changed? Are we asking ourselves what we can do to answer the call He has put on us? Do we cry out, “Here I am, Lord, send me!”

How can we talk of His love and not reflect it? How can we say we are His if we are not making room for His spirit? Are we serving others? Are we being kind and generous to others? Do we provide aid to widows and orphans, free the oppressed, or seek to restore what was lost?

Lord, make us vessels of your love. Take our lives and change them. Take our wills and make them your own. Accept our sacrifices as living and holy gifts worthy of your grace. Please show us your good and pleasing and perfect will for our lives. Make our bodies and our lives an acceptable dwelling place for your spirit. Please help us to see others as your children and lost sheep. Allow your light to show through us. Teach us to seek your kingdom first. Help us realize the abundant gifts you promise after we have prepared a worthy resting place for your spirit in our lives and hearts.
