Hello, muse! – The Hero’s Challenge Part I

Hello, muse. Welcome to my house. We’re so glad you joined us. Now let’s get down to business.

When the birds sing, the ducks quack, and the squirrels bark and squeak, the morning begins to sound like peace and joy. Some effort is required to tune out the cars rumbling, jets roaring, crows cawing, and the staccato of the jay. Then the magnificent sounds of the Earth begin to soothe the senses. The coolness of the autumn weather invigorates the heart and mind. Soon the spirit relaxes into the rhythm of the scene, releases its focus, and settles into the practical perspective to hear the voice.

The voice brings reassurance, delivers guidance, and reveals words. most beautiful. It tells stories, paints pictures, and sings ballads and anthems meant to invoke memories of a glorious past. It weaves a melody, precious and solemn and wise.

Characters spring forth, ready for chivalry and heroics, to support the good fortune of the star of the quest. Damsels and their ladies preen and wave their sweet tidings, their eyes fluttering and their voices shrill. Children wave banners and ribbons, spin noisemakers, and feign sword fights in glee.

The hero steps out of the chapel. His only armor is a short chainmail vest that covers his shoulders and torso, leaving his arms free to swing. His broadsword is fastened to a wide belt slung on his hip. He strides out into the gathering, smiling and waving to his friends. His confidence is contagious as his fellows return his smiles and nods. They start arm-punching each other and exchanging taunts and verbal barbs.
