Prayer and Confession

This entry is part 5 of 6 in the series Prayer

Am I so busy praying for deliverance from my circumstances that I miss what God is calling me to? Shouldn’t I ask first what God is doing in my life before I get bogged down in what the world is doing to me? Rectifying this can only be accomplished through prayer and confession.

For I desire loyalty rather than sacrifice, And the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Hosea 6:6 NASB2020

The key to the missionary problem is in the hand of God, and that key is prayer not work, that is not work as it is popularly understood today that may mean the evasion of concentration on God.

Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest, October 16

I must stay focused on God and his will for my life. If I take my eyes off him and look at the stormy seas around me, I will sink into the abyss. So I am compelled to remain in prayer and devotion to Him and by Him. This is the path that leads to true knowledge of Him and opens the way for His Word to be written on my heart. Without this approach, anything I do depends on my power and my knowledge. This is the “work” Chambers describes above and it is not from God or for God.

Forgive me, Lord. Your grace is sufficient for me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. Help me to remain loyal to the call you have placed on me, since the foundation of the world. Accept my confession and place me firmly in your will. Prepare a way and make my paths straight. If I lose focus on you and become busy in the world’s view of “work”, bind and hobble me until I understand that I must stay by your side while you accomplish the task at hand. The task of finding and rescuing your lost sheep. Use me in every situation you place me in. Replace my fear and sorrow with love and joy. Strengthen my spirit. Father God, correct me, teach me, and send me!
